What Is SSR?
SSR is short for silent sustained reading. In my Creative Writing class we take about 20 minutes of each class day to silently read a book of our choice. Overall I have finished three books in this class. We keep a log of the books we have read, the amount of pages we have read in a span of two hours, and the dates in which we read them.
13 Reasons Why
By: Jay Asher
13 Reasons Why was the first book I read in this class. It is a fictional story about a young girl who committed suicide and left a series of tapes she recorded. The tapes fall into the hands of a boy named Chip, he is listening to each tape, and wondering what it was he did to this girl to make her kill herself. There are 13 tapes total, each tape contains her voice and a person who caused anguish in her life, within the tape she tells the story of why she despises that person and why that person made her want to kill herself.
The book was published October 18 2007 and is written by Jay Asher.

To Kill A Mockingbird
By: Harper Lee
To Kill A Mockingbird is a realistic fiction written by Harper Lee, published July 11, 1960. The story is narrated by a young girl who goes by the name of Scout and follows her adventures over a span of a couple years with her brother Jem and new friend Dill. The children have a neighbor by the name of Boo Radley who never leaves the house and has not been seen for years. They come up with plans to see him even though they are afraid of him. The story also follows a trial that scout's father, Atticus, is running. Overall this is one of my all time favorite novels. I really enjoy the voice in this book as well as the characterization and story line. I can really picture the neighborhood and the children when reading this book. Down below is a movie trailer for the To Kill A Mockingbird. In my opinion I believe the movie is just as good as the book.
